I was the Head Electrician for the Gainesville Theatre Alliance’s production of A Monster Calls in 2024. This was my first time working in the Ed Cabell Theater and it was a fruitful experience for me as an electrician. In the words of Larry Cook, “You can hang a light anywhere, except for where you need one,” when it came to this space. Before this production process, I was unsure on how to rig pipe, create a pulley system, and work with motor-powered trusses, but now I feel confident in all of these useful skills.

This show really does hold a special place in my heart because it was the first time I truly felt fully confident in my abilities to not only lead my fellow classmates, but I met the needs of the designer and ensured everything was hung and cabled in a timely manner. It was also just an enjoyable show to work on. Shelby is a wonderful designer and I learned a lot from her during our countless hours spent with each other during tech.
